 | I think it is ironic that these ships will probably be transporting oil to the US. A Chinise shipping company (COSCO) has contracted with an Aussie company to produce several of these ships. These ships are really cool, they actually use the wind and the sun to push them along. When the wind is blowing in their favor, the sails come up | and catch the wind, pushing it. While the ship is being propelled by the wind, the solar panels are charging the batteries. That way the ship can continue to go on clean electric power when there are clouds or at night time. This technology will reduce fuel costs by an estimated 40% and will provide about 5% of the electricity needed for the ship. Using this free energy to transport goods around the world will first of all help the economy which is a huge factor right now and it will pave the way for more vehicles like this to reduce the carbon footprint on the world. We tip our hats to the developers of this new technology and also to the shipping company that will be using the ships. |
