Max Donelan is an assistant professor of kinesiology at Simon Fraser University near Vancouver, British Columbia. He is also the chief science officer and director of Bionic Power Inc., developers of the Biomechanical Energy Harvester — a “wearable technology that unobtrusively generates electricity from the natural motion of walking and uses it to charge a wide range of portable battery-powered devices,” according to the company’s Web site.

Green Inc.’s Joe Hutsko recently talked with Mr. Donelan, who has been nurturing the technology, along with a team of researchers, for more than 10 years.
